I liked this book quite a lot. It was very readable, I found myself tearing through it. It's interesting how suspenseful it was, considering that we learn the victim & murderers on the first page. There's a lot to think about in this book. It had fully fleshed out characters, a good sense of setting, and a lot of good ideas. There was a melancholy to it that I liked a lot.

I didn't realize when I chose to read this that it was published in 1992, not new at all. I guess I liked it ok overall, but there are a lot of things about it that I wasn't thrilled with -- the characters didn't seem that sympathetic to me, for example; and there was (were?) way too much drugs and drinking (those two facts are probably not unconnected). Better than The Goldfinch, but not a mega fan of the writing style. Didn't like any of the characters and found them like the characters in The Goldfinch.... drunken, selfish, drugged up wasters!
