This is the most depressing book I've read in a long time. It's realistic, but I don't know whether that's enough to redeem it for me. I know all the violence, drugs, and exploitation that the 5 teenagers in the book experienced actually do happen to far too many young people in this country, as well as the casual sex and the feeling of being unloved or unworthy. But the fact that it exists doesn't make me want to read about it.

After thinking it over, I have chosen to not give this book a star rating. Not because it's a bad book, but because I honestly don't know how I feel about this book, I didn't dislike it, I know that much. This book is heart-wrenching, dark, raw, visceral, gritty, and brutal. Hopkins does not in any way, shape or form sugarcoat the God-awful reality that is teen prostitution.
