I knew from the start that this book would probably take me ages to read. Don't get me wrong: I absolutely love the Lord of the Rings. I have watched the movies over and over again but there is something about the books that feels different. I might be that I watched to movies to much, because every scene from the book I can see in the film version in my mind and I recognize many of the lines that made it into the movies. I first read this absolutely ages ago, when I was about 15. In the time that's since passed, my memories of the book had almost completely faded in favor of the events of the movie, so it was fun to remember how the book events go. The Fellowship of the Ring is the first book of The Lord of the Rings.
I started reading this because my boyfriend wanted to re-watch the movies and since i haven't watched them i decided to read the books first then go for the movie. The only problem is i had a difficult time trying to remember strange names of characters and places and had extra pressure cause my boyfriend would occasionally ask in which part of the story am i, and how are the characters named, etc. I want to watch the movies n ...more

A reread and loved it. The first time I read it was in high school, and like most good reads, I picked up on a lot of things I missed the first time through. It's a great setup for the rest of the series.
