Ruth Ozeki, an author who lives on Cortes Island of Canada on the Desolation Sound crafts a story of a Japanese school girl named Nao, pronounced now and an author named Ruth who lives with her husband, Oliver on Cortes Island.
Ruth and Nao are connected by Nao's diary which Ruth found along the shoreline, shortly after the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.

Interesting tale told from the journal of a young girl in Japan. A writer in British Colombia found the journal in a plastic bag near the Pacific shore by her home. I could tell at the start that the author loved her characters. In fact I assume the author is actually the author. I liked that she blurred the lines between reader and writer very well; like an infinity mirror. This took me a long time to read. I just had trouble sticking with it. I finally listened to about the last half on audiobook at increased speed.
Another reviewer said that they were hooked right up until a point fairly late in the book. I would say I was the opposite. I was depressed and a bit bored by the first half and then things got really interesting towards the end.
