In an unnamed city that sounds like Venice, a tourist couple are drawn into the web of an attractive local couple with an unsettling history. Compelling and creepy.

This is a strange little book. I don't read horror and this came a bit close for me. It's really more of a novella. If you like Ian McEwan, then by all means, read it. If you have not read him before, maybe start out with Enduring Love or Atonement. I saw that it was made into a film and I want to see it. Since I know the end, it won't be that upsetting. Love the images of Venice, although the city is not named. But it has to be Venice, doesn't it? ...more
