I am so impressed by the research Bridges has woven into this compelling paranormal historical. Katerina is a tough and sympathetic protagonist, and her journey as she comes to terms with her gift (or curse…) of necromancy is complex and suspenseful. I knew nothing about what this book was about going into it, I was looking for a book set in Russia and this fit the bill, so I was pleasantly surprised to learn it was a fantasy book. The world built was interesting and Katiya was a fun main character, though I didn't understand her behavior a couple of times - but maybe that has more to due with the time period she lived in? I'm curious enough about the next book that I hope to be able to read it soon.
