Cal has both male and female organs and is raised as a girl but at puberty, finds out that s/he is genetically male.
I loved this once it got into Cal's story. I found the first 200 pages, about the grandparents and parents, rather slow. But to be fair, that is because I am particularly interested in gender-related matters (partly because I once had a boyfriend with Klinefelter's syndrome, another form of intersexuality) and was impatient to get to that part. I really enjoyed this book because of the authors excellent skill with words and story telling. A contemporary story steeped in “myth”, mystery and revelation.
