Takes 400 pages to get through generations and generations of boredom and skimming over every point in history to arrive at a mere few pages of a hermaphrodite's fictional story. Tried hard to be a lot of things but wrote no realistic feminine/female voices -- and dare I say, masculine, or intersex, or whatever concocted word. This is a very well written novel, a family history full of moral taboos, incest, androgyny, hermaphrodites and the sexual/ social morass that is attached to transgender / homosexuality etc
