This was suggested to me as a dystopia, but I don't think I'd call it that. It seems to me to straddle the lines between science fiction and fantasy. Because the story isn't finished yet -- apparently won't be for 5 more books -- it's possible there will turn out to be a logical "scientific" explanation for everything that's going on. But so far, it's hard to imagine what that could be.

Someone recommended this to me, and I'm glad they did, as I read it in just over a day. A lot of people have compared these books to Stephen King, and I can see why. The horror remains with you. I don't usually read this type of horror, and I generally avoid Stephen King as I find him far too good at freaking me out, but this was horror without giving me nightmares for weeks. There are some very nasty bits though, and it's definitely going to stay in my thoughts for a while.

This book had an interesting plot. All the people over fifteen years of age disappears. Also once you turn fifteen, you disappear. No one knows where you go. The people left behind are scared and they don't want to disappear. Some of the people start to develop magical powers. The group in charge doesn't like that so some of them imprison the people who have magical powers. Everyone wants to be in charge but no one can control the entire group.
