This book is really hard for me to rate in terms of just a 5 star scale. In terms of the crafting of a story that draws you in and makes you want to see where it goes: 5 out of 5 stars. I hated every character in this story and detested just about every action they took, and I still felt compelled to finish. That's a pretty big testament to the story Gillian Flynn has crafted here. I'm of the opinion that Flynn never wanted us to like her characters, and every feeling of hatred I experienced was ...more

I am so blown away by this story. The writing, the character development, the plot, the TWISTS, the EVERYTHING. I'm not sure how to hide parts of my review for spoilers, so I can't really talk about the creepiest parts of this book, but seriously, six stars. This is hands down the best book I've "read" (using the word "read" loosely since I actually listened to this one on audio) in a very long time. Gillian Flynn's writing is simply brilliant. I don't have enough good things to say about this b ...more

Nope, can't say I liked it at all. Disappointing. While the constant twists and turns made the story somewhat more interesting, I don't like novels about people I hate. And I hated every single one of the characters in this book, no matter how peripheral or small. Hated them, wished for a big fiery explosion to take out the whole kit and kaboodle, hated, despised them. I want someone to root for when I'm reading a book, if not a hero then at least someone who tries, a minor character is fine, ju ...more

Though it is a cliche, I have to say that it was a book I never wanted to put down; it beckoned me when I was away from home. While the ending seemed a little over-the-top, a divorced friend talked to me about it, and I came to accept it better. I'm a former English teacher who leans toward literary fiction, but this thriller was -- well, a thriller. ...more

Loved it all the way through to the end. Which SUCKED and completely ruined the book for me. Could have been amazing, which is a real shame because the writing is excellent.

Hmmmm... I loved the writing style and I thought the 2 separate voices really worked. There were twists and turns that kept pulling me along and I didn't want to stop reading. But the ending was really disappointing. Over all a great thriller but the ending is an important part of a story and I have to knock off a star for the failed ending. Ok maybe just a half star because I liked the rest so much. 3.5 stars Oh and the profanity was overused. Maybe I'll keep it at 3 stars after all. ...more
