Nick Dunne's wife is missing...and he's the prime suspect.

On the morning of Nick and Amy's 5th wedding anniversary, Amy mysteriously disappears from their home in North Carthage, MO. There are signs of struggle in the house - overturned furniture, wide-open front door, ironing board with a hot iron waiting to be used.

Nick is upset and wants his wife home safe...or does he? As the police continue to dig into Amy's disappearance, Nick looks more and more guilty. Secrets begin coming out that are d

Unputdownable! Well thought out and very unique. Loved it. Definitely a reread due at some stage... need to see what I missed cluewise!
A book to keep you up all night and make you question if you really know others AND yourself, at all.
Didn't see that end coming either ! And it is a 5* + for me.

UPDATE 4/16/13: WHY DID I GIVE THIS BOOK 3 stars? Ugh! I guess I was looking at the 'potential' it had to become a good book. Puh-leeze. Wish I could give half a star. Having revisited this, it just makes me angry that I wasted my time. Even more angry that this book has become a HUGE success.
*************

Well, it started off on FIRE! This was a GREAT book...until about 3/4 of they way and then it became a muddled mess. I'm not sure why folks are continuing to give this book 4+ or more stars, bu

I would rate the first 3/4 of this book as a 4 star at least, but the last quarter of the book was crazy and when it was over I realized that I disliked both characters so much that the end--which was horrible--was actually perfect.

Ok, WTH was that?!?! Let me first start out by saying that I friend and I started reading Gone Girl: A Novel after we got so many people telling us how good it was.  I read the blurb of the story, but I had no idea what was in store for me when I started reading/listening to this!

Wow, these characters were beyond f'ed up.  I mean beyond!  Just when you started liking someone, they showed their true colors and then you were just disgusted with yourself for even falling for their b-s.

But, for th

This was a re-read after reading the author's debut novel Sharp Objects. I'm actually glad I read this one first because I don't think I would have read it after reading the other one.

Anyway, it had been a while since I had read this and I was surprised at what I picked out this time that I missed the first time. Maybe it was because I knew what was coming but there were little nuances that escaped me during the first time reading it.

The book still held me riveted and I still had almost physical

I watched the movie first and I liked the movie better. I felt the characters were different in the book when compared to the movie. I liked the character development in the movie was better.

This book wasn't worth the hype. I found it to be dull and boring. I thought the main character uninteresting. I thought the husband Nick to be flat and uninteresting as well. Though there were supposed twists and turns. They were just bizaree. I cheered when things didn't go Amy's way. As a crime book, it also fell flat. The police characters were noncholant the case. I meam after ten days, Amy was still missing and they had absolutely no clues to her whereabouts? Nick just accepted it all with ...more

This is a very nicely written book. The author is able to make the characters come alive and off the pages. They felt so real to me that I had to, at times, put the book down. There are so many twists and turns, and I sometimes couldn't quite tell where the story was headed.... But I was excited about finding out so you I couldn stop reading. ...more

WHew, this one will wear you out! It's a page turner, but it took half the book for me to get deeply invested. Lots of themes such as : how marriage changes who we are (so do our jobs, parenthood, etc), the law and justice, reality, the power of story....
This author can really give you the creeps and make you paranoid :)
I think to me it is a "tall tale" about the mechanics of marriage. We must change for each other, we must put up with each others faults and our own, we must have and give contr

So I am late to read this one. For me this book was a bit of all things; well paced and slow, amusing and utterly dull, completely psychopathic and utterly predictable. The ending I guess was perfect, but I would have preferred a murder suicide if I am honest.

This book kept grabbing me, and each time it was as powerful as if it had been the first time. The twists and turns kept happening -- just as I thought finally it had all settled down and I understood what was going on, something made me totally change my perspective on everything. And the end of the book left me ... ragged, wondering, worrying, ... convinced that this can't really be how it is.

The characters were well-drawn, even some of the minor ones. Nick resonated with me the most. He seeme

I am still thinking about this book days after finishing it but I haven't decided whether or not I like it. The beginning was a little slow but not unnecessary. The middle got exciting with the twists and craziness. The ending just sucked. By the end, things just seemed ridiculously implausible which killed the rest of the book for me. I might have loved this book with a different ending. Maybe the movie ending will be more to my liking (if I get around to seeing it). I have so many thoughts on ...more

I attempted to read this book three times. After the first two chapters, I was bored and stopped reading it. I struggled to read it a second time and to no avail, I put it down again. I gave it one more try. Finally, I finished the book. I was disappointed because it did not meet my expectations.
