This is a book that I felt I should have read by now, but somehow never had. How is it possible to be a lawyer who has written a master's thesis on regulation of pornography and not have read the book at the heart of one of the biggest obscenity cases? Welp. Somehow I just never got to this book until now. I can see why this book felt scandalous when it was published. But today, it hardly feels racy and definitely not especially erotic. While I can understand how this book may have pushed the limits of what was considered proper in 1928 I'm amazed that people are still finding it obscene or shocking. The few depictions of sex are very mild and describe the emotional connection as much as the physical. I though Connie was a very real, likable character. She had her flaws and didn't always make good decisions but you understood why she did what she did. If you get a chance, read the book before reading anything about D.H. Lawrenc
