My first Jodi Picoult novel. And I am not disappointed. I am not stingy with my stars and I just know that this deserves a 5 rating.
This is your ordinary story of sibling rivalries and competitions, but it is more. It is about families and relationships, of making choices, sometimes not for your own, but for others. It is a story of love and loss, of living and the meaning of it.

Picoult is a master at taking complicated, controversial issues and looking at all sides from the human standpoint. And, as she usually does, she shows us that these issues are rarely black and white, right or wrong in the wake of their effects. I was warned that this book had a sad ending. I now know that was an understatement.

Whilst reading this book I really felt that I needed to talk about it with someone and that person ended up being my husband. As he hadnt read the book he kept saying that the storyline was so WRONG and parents couldnt possibly behave like that. As I got more into the book it got even more complicated. I enjoyed the book and it would be a great book club book as very controversial.

I cried at the end of this book. The ending was NOT what I expected. There is no hint of this happening what so ever. Its a great book and I think its a good book for people of any ages to read because its written in the perspective of EVERYONE in the family, male female young and old. There is someone there for everybody to relate to.

Powerful!
