I'm pretty sure that this was my first ever stab at Science Fiction... and I loved it! I was hooked from the first chapter. This is one of those books that you want to skip work for so you can keep reading. This is also one of those books that is certain to leave you with a book hangover (the inability to start a new book because you want to keep living in the last book's world.). Argh. This was really good book with a very interesting turn that you don't expect. I did find it a bit hard to remember that this is a young boy that is the main character. But then I remind myself that he is considered a prodigy. His manner of speaking is so adult as is many of the boys around him. I found this storyline slightly disturbing, with children that are too smart for everyone else's good. I lived through struggles with Ender as he realizes he is being trained to fight in a war at the tender age of 7. Excellent story, lots of action, and fun to read.
