The overall premise was rather interesting, but most of the book wasn't really about it. Instead, it was slow-moving recollections of the 1st-person narrator's earlier life. Now that I've finished the book, I do find myself pondering a few of the weighty issues raised at the very end -- so I guess I'd really give it 2.5*. But for most of the book, I was just waiting to get to "the good parts". ...more

I loved the tone of this book. It really seemed like the rambling recounting of childhood memories.
