How I have not read this before? Loved it, all of it. I picked this up thinking god this is going to be depressing (given Sylvia Plath's life and death, that seemed to be a safe assumption). But I was wrong. Although there are some very sad scenes in this book, I mean it is a portrayal of her descent into clinical depression, but the writing lifts you and it becomes quite magical. I went into this read expecting a classic/touching story and although it wasn't exactly what I expected it was still good in it's own way. What I loved about this read was the metaphors and the vivid descriptions! The Descriptions just gave you an incredible feeling or knowing exactly what things looked like to Esther etc..

I bought this book with a gift card to Barnes and Noble because it was a literary classic. I expected it to be...pardon the word...depressing in a sense, but after reading a little about Sylvia Plath, it does seem like a peep hole into her mind.
I liked the book. It's written really well, there is no doubt about that. I guess a part of my discontent with this book is I can't relate. Sure I get sad sometimes, but the woefulness and the melencholy of a girl who is truly depressed...I've never been ...more
