this is the 2nd time i read this with the first time being 20 yrs ago. i really enjoyed it probably cause since my last reading i have read bios of gertrude stein,f scott fitzgerald. hem tells funny stories about these interesting writers and others. he tells the story while looking back 40 yrs on his memories. i wish i had more non fiction of hem s to read. i shall look for them. his life was more interesting than his fiction although i have enjoyed some of short stories lately. tell me if you

I read this a long time ago, enjoyed it, but contend that Hemingway s life was at times more interesting than his fiction.

IMHO, this is perfect bliss. To spend some time in Paris in the 20s, it just doesn't get much better.

I have completely misjudged Hemingway. Happy to have this book carry me into the ‘20s.

Do think of it as fiction. I enjoyed the actual experience of reading, as I fall heavily into the rhythm of Hemingway's prose, but after a few "anecdotes" that Hemingway tells, you begin to realize that there is a slant, and he is a jerk. It did prompt me to read more biographies of those mentioned within- Fitzgerald, Stein, and Beach, to mention a few. ...more
