What a best sentence to foreshadow the story! I just loved the story and the characters of this book. The only reason why I gave the book four stars instead of five was because it was a bit too long for my taste, but that's no fault of Tolstoy because I realize he couldn't have told the story of this complexity in less pages. My initial reaction was "What a drama! Everyone seems so vain!" Then I had to pull myself back ...more

lovely classic though I never believed the ending-women don't usually commit 'messy' suicide, especially Anna, I think she would have coreographed the whole thing in her boudoir, kinda like a Russian Cleopatra
