Minus 1 star for unnecessary and too-graphic violence toward animals. Why do authors do this? It's cruel, it's repulsive, and it is so not cool. How can people even think up these things, let alone write them to share. The violence toward people is less graphic, and most of those people are not good people.

Anyway.

Other than the animal cruelty, this is a rather funny quick read about two brothers--Charlie and Eli Sisters--who are killers working for The Commodore out of Oregon City, Oregon, 1851.

Strangely weird book. How weird? There's an intermission about halfway through the book in which another story is told for 2 or 3 pages. Just before the end of the book, there is another intermission which appears to be more of the first intermission story.
This is basically a travelogue of two brothers Charlie and Eli Sisters as they track a man their boss wants eliminated. It was fascinating to observe the differences between the brothers and the changes in their relationship.

Yes, there were some parts that just made ...more

The plot of this book is similar to a mix of movies: True Grit + Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? + a pinch of Pulp Fiction thrown in...yeah, a terrific read!
