What Members Thought

This was a book I'll never forget. A nightmare for anyone who has been a parent. All I can say is, migawd.

My second summer in graduate school in chapel Hill was the first break we got in a pretty gruelling program. I remember using it as a chance to catch up on Southern writers - during weeks of marathon reading sessions, I would inhale the works of Reynolds Price, Lee Smith, William Styron, and - my favorite - Walker Percy.

one of the greatest ,most important books i have ever read. too much sex may turn some people against reading it and i am puzzled as to why the author put so much of it in his great book. if bush and cheney would read books like this they may not have started a war. i hate to read of nazis and that whole story all over again since i have read many books about ww 2 but this one is unique. all should read it.

Another of those books that will break.your.heart. When you start reading, you think, "Gee, this is kind of bizarre but really funny,"; as the story continues, you become drawn into the horrible labyrinth that is Sophie's life. The book slowly but surely prises your heart out of your chest, places it gently on the floor, and then stamps on it repeatedly. Loved it. Makes my eyes fill up even to think about the story. It's in my garage with other old favorites, waiting to be re-read.
