What Members Thought

It took a while, but yes, the switch that happens - the break in story that moves it from just "Huck Finn from Jim's point of view" to a completely different story, an actual reclaiming of that story (or so it seems to me, a white Canadian) - yeah, that was worth it.
I recommend it but with the caveat: This is (in a way Huck Finn was absolutely not) a book about the profound evils of slavery, and some of those horrors are on the page. ...more

I have no words that can praise this novel to the extent it deserves. Just a wonderful, wonderful book that honors Jim and Huck in all their humanity.
If I had one minor quibble, it’s that all the women seem to exist as objects to fuel Jim’s pain, but in this tightly focused narrative, I’ll let it slide.
