I just reread this for probably the third time in my life, and it is absolutely great. I like this translation (Rieu) and probably will read Rieu's Iliad sometime soon.

New to teaching freshmen, I sought my colleagues' advice on which edition to order for my students (having only read Fagels, myself). They mostly said Lombardo, citing his accessibility, so I checked him out.
The names, alone, were enough to put me off of Lombardo and root me firmly in Team Fagels. I don't care if the translated names in Lombardo ARE closer to the orginal Greek -- no student of mine is going to go around calling Circe "Kirke."

This translation is sooooooooooooo good. Better by far than any other of sampled. I also got to hear Lombardo read from it live. THAT was awesome.
