I've been a fan of Willa Cather since reading Death Comes for the Archbishop thirty years ago. (I read My Ántonia in high school, but was not a fan.)
A Lost Lady is gracefully written, the setting and characters well-described; the story sad. Cather is writing of a transition from one era (that she loved) to another (that she was not as fond of), and an elegiac quality pervades the book.
