This is the best book I've read all year!
Adduni is a fourteen-year-old girl in Kenya. She is smart and eager to learn. Her mother encourages her school learning. Unfortunately, momma dies before Adduni finishes her education. Adduni's papa exchanges "sells" her to Morufu as his third wife. That is just the beginning.
Adduni seems to be under the thumb of men, society, and people who take advantage of others, yet, she never loses her optimism or her eagerness to learn.

I have to say, this book pulled me in to the story so quickly. I feel like sometimes I have to read a few chapters of a book before gaining interest but within the first few pages I was sucked in to Adunni’s world right away.
