Not much is know about Lucrezia de'Medici and the scant sixteen years she lived. Little is known about her life, but much is speculated about her death, and rumors persist that her husband, the Duke of Ferrara, poisoned her. Those rumors inspired the Robert Browning poem "My Last Duchess" and now O'Farrell's novel, The Marriage Portrait.
