I will concur with many of the other reviews from people who left this book frustrated. I feel that this had so much potential to be absolutely great(and parts of it were that I thoroughly enjoyed in spite of not liking it as a whole), but she made such an intense effort to make it something more grandiose, which was too obscure for me. Maybe one day it will all click.

I'd love to teach this book (along some other works, including Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher") as a great example of the American Gothic.
