I need to talk with people who have read this book. I am undone...completely undone. I wasn't prepared...I've read the research about the plays attributed to Shakespeare being written by someone else, a woman who certainly wouldn't have been credit but is far more likely to have had the experiences and the skill to write these plays. My friend Susanna wrote a collection of poems about this called "Shakespeare's Itches." She "performs them too. I'd love to see them but haven't yet.

I loved this book. It is so well imagined, so honest and true, real individuals I came to understand and care about. The writing is wonderful the smell of the apples, the sheen of a well oiled table, the noisy life of a village, the almost mystical relationship of twins, the rending horror of a child's death. It is a three Kleenex read, but worth it. ...more

Stunningly written, with no word lacking or superfluous. She weaves the time, place, characters and plot into a cloak that enfolds the reader from the first to the final word. Just brilliant.
