I tackled this autobiographical novel over the weekend for the "Classics Corner" discussion at Constant Reader and found it a very engrossing read. Knowing the outcome of the larger story beyond the bounds of the book itself made the reading especially powerful and compulsive.

I enjoyed the humor deployed early on as Esther spends her month in Manhattan as a summer intern at a ladies' fashion magazine. I gained a real sense of what it must have been like to be that suburban Boston college "schol
