This is the story Miss Jean Brodie, school teacher at the conservative Marsha Blaine School For Girls.

It portrays the costumes in Edinburgh in the 1930s when Miss Brodie tries to change the codes of behavior of the next generation girls, "the Brodie set".

This story has been dramatized into the movies The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969) with Maggie Smith starring as Miss Brodie.

Not at all what I was expecting! I thought this was going to be a sweet book about a favorite teacher.

1930s England, "The Brodie Set" is a small (6?) group of middle school girls, at a girls' school, who are their teacher's favorites. When they leave for the upper school, they still visit her (even as she forms a new set among the younger girls) and continue even after graduation.

Miss Brodie was single after her fiancé was killed in WWI. She repeatedly tells her set that she is in "her prime". B

I found this book interesting and well-written - I have not seen the movie or play so I went into the reading totally unaware of what it was about - nothing earth-shattering, but an interesting read.
