i cannot believe this is called a great book. what am i missing ? fitzgerald does a much better job of describing this jazz age with beautifully written sentences whereas this stuff is repetitive and boring.

Big wallets, small minds. This story of small town America during the Hoover years is fresh and still relevant. If just a few words were changed (Bush for Hoover, gang for mob, SUV for coupe, Bill O'Reilly for Father Coughlin, hispanics and Muslims for blacks and Jews) this story could have happened during this decade. It's sort of scary that things have changed so little.

I don't say this often, but I wish this novel had been longer. Recommeded read. ...more
