Read as part of #APS together. A beautiful slow burn of a book. It takes place in the American midwest in the early part of the 20th century. An affair between one man's wife and his best friend leads to a murder and suicide and the book looks at the fall out and in particular on the impact on the sons of the respective family. It jumps forward and backward in time but the central occurrence is a brief encounter years later between the two boys in which no word is spoken. The book is narrated by ...more
