This is, by far, one of the best books I've ever read. It's in my top 5 list (maybe it's #1) and the book that I felt like hugging when I finished it. Garcia Marquez is, together with José Saramago, the writer that most influenced me, and his fantastic realism style is simply superb. Moreover, he translates very well into words the reality, specially political, of Latin American countries.

I know this is a popular book by an amazing author....but I just think it's kinda crazy. (some may say fanciful) I suspect the translation might have muffled the beauty of the language. I don't think this book lives up to it's reputation. I feel sorry for anyone after a long hiatus of reading choosing this to re-engage with their reading life.
