amazing memoir originally published anonymously. The story follows the eight weeks of the now named author, journalist Marta Hillers. The style is matter of fact, walking underground to the bomb shelter, cooking the last eggs for breakfast, standing in line for potatoes and dealing with rape by the Russian soldiers are told in the same simple diction and tone.
