This one was a tough to rate. I guess it's really a 3.5. The story and writing are good--the writing is very good. But this book was entirely too violent for me (people-people, people-animal, animal-animal). It could have been a solid 4.

This was another just "OK" read for me. I found the story to be interesting, in fact while reading it I felt it had a bit of a "There Will Be Blood" (movie) feel to it, but the two main characters were just so unlikeable that it really turned me off. I found most of the characters to be very one dimensional, with really only one that seemed to be fully developed and it was her character that kept me interested enough to finish the book. Mixed feelings. On the one hand, a beautifully written novel that I could not stop reading. On the other, I'm left with an "eh" feeling at the end, probably because I thought the ending was a bit of a cop-out and the coda was rather cliche. So, the story itself was a bit weak for me. However, Serena is not someone you will likely forget, and it was so unusual to read about such a psychopathic female.
