Intriguing premise. The various gods who have been worshiped by mankind over the centuries are real. When belief of them is at its height, when they are being prayed to and sacrifices are regularly made in their honor, their powers are at peak. As the years pass into modern times and memories of the old gods fade, they become shadows of their former selves. Really lovely prose, and a smooth weaving together of a wide range of themes and genres. It gives me the satisfying feeling of a finished jigsaw where all the pieces snap into place with a soft click - just leaves you with a good feeling.

Third time reading this book. I don't understand how it can just get better and better every time I read it. God, I love it.

This is my second attempt at the book and I'm so glad I tried again. I really fell in love with the characters an the plot line. Shadow is now in my top 10 hottest characters list. I knew that everyone wasn't crazy in their love for Neil Gaiman. ...more

Very words can describe how much I love this book. I miss the feeling of reading it and seeing it on my end table and the feeling that I still have more to go. Sometimes an author creates something that is perfect and American Gods...is absolutely perfect and fantastic.
