I had great expectations for this novel, which I suppose made me expect more than I got. The author is good at her craft and the storyline was fine, but it always seemed a bit pretentious, as the characters certainly were. Perhaps if I had not read the reviews first, I would have enjoyed it more. It was a little too full of existential angst for me.

I loved this book. I think it is Meg Wolitzwer's best book so far. A novel filled with characters whose lives unfold and overlap, with themes that push past what I expected...particularly the themes of money, class and jealousy as they play out among long time friends. I hope we read and discuss it at some point in a Constant Reader group. ...more
