What a beautifully, amazing, heartwrenching, eye opening book. I am crying my eyes out. I will forever love Gus and Hazel. They left their scar in my heart.

I ve heard lots of people say that they love this book but personally I think cancer has become a very usual topics for books like this ... And I found it just like the same old cancer love story
I didn't really hate it or anything but I think this book was a bit exaggerated .. the plot was simple and I thought I d cry ( from what I heard .. this book is a tearjerker ) but I didn't...
So I guess I am not a huge fan of this book ...more

I hate to start my review with the same quote everyone else starts their review with, but there is a reason they do. This quote is exactly how I feel about The Fault In Our Stars. I have a book hangover, the worst one I have ever had after reading a book. This book has changed me and the way I look at life. How often do you read a book and feel that way? It has only happened to me 3, now 4, times. This book is now my favorite book of all time.

16 year old Hazel Lancaster is living on borrowed time. She has lived with her terminal cancer for 3 years and thanks to a medical miracle, she has been bought more time. Now, if you think about it, we are all living on borrowed time. All of our days are numbered, but Hazel is being moved to the front of the line. It is not a matter of if she will die, but when. Her when will be a lot sooner than most of us. She was taken out of school when she was diagnosed, and she has since gotten her GED and attends community college. She considers herself a grenade. Therefore, she has removed herself from the world to lesson the impact people will feel once she is gone. She only interacts with her parents, reads endlessly, and watches reality TV. She has been forced to attend a cancer kids support group since her parents feel she is suffering from depression. At this support group, Hazel meets 17 year old Augustus Waters, an amputee and cancer survivor, and her numbered days are forever changed.

Augustus is an incredibly mature, intelligent, and not to mention good looking young man. Having survived cancer, he is not delusional, and knows that it could come back. He, like a lot of people who have a brush with death, is obsessed with leaving a mark on the world. He wants his life to have meaning; he wants to be someones hero.

Augustus sees something in Hazel Grace (as he calls her) that draws him to her. He describes Hazel perfectly. He says: "You are so busy being you that you have no idea how utterly unprecedented you are." Hazel is definitely one of a kind. Augustus can't help but fall in love with her, even though Hazel tries to prevent it from happening. She is a grenade after all.

Hazel is obsessed with this book called An Imperial Affliction. It is about a teenage girl named Anna who has cancer and the book just ends, when Anna presumably dies, and you never find out what happens to the rest of the characters. Hazel shares this book with Augustus and he too is deeply affected by it. Hazel desperately wants to find out the ending of this book, because she, like Anna, will leave this world, and Hazel wants to know that Anna's Mother, friends and even pet hamster went on to be okay without her. If the characters in this book are okay, maybe Hazel's loved ones will be okay after she is gone as well. With the help of Augustus, she finds the author of the book, and it leads them on a journey of love and discovery together.

This is a book about living a forever within our numbered days. It is about realizing that most of us will never leave a mark on the universe, but we will leave our marks on those we love. Our lives have meaning as long as we open up ourselves to love. Augustus helped Hazel open up to love, and Hazel helped Augustus realize that his life had meaning because he loved and was loved in return.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this book. You will laugh, cry, and be forever changed by this book. I know I am. Thank you John Green! ...more

Let me just say i was fairly bored with this until it reached the middle.
Honestly this novel depressed me , i really couldnt stop crying for hours thinking about what they went through and the uncertainty of cancer free and it just coming back in your PET couple months later.

I felt so sad about Gus just writing this is bringing tears to my eyes. Its so hard to find love with cancer and then to loose it in the blink of an eye is just horrible.
It just depressed me and i cant give this book 5 stars ...more

It is not that this was not an insightful and touching book. Personally, the anger and pain weighed on me. I would give it three and a half stars because there was also the issue of what happened in Peter Van Houten's book that was left unresolved. The sub-plot of An Imperial Affliction was a little unrealistic, in my opinion. (view spoiler) ...more

I actually read this book in hard cover form. This was probably not a good idea considering I cried on MOST of the paper pages. They didn't stand a chance of staying dry. I need a serious moment to get my emotions together. ...more
