Wow! This was book number 108 for me in 2013 and one I will not soon forget. It is one of those hmm… other readers are liking it and it is only .99 cents, so let me give it a go.

Damn… I could not put this book down even though it had some very disturbing and graphically sickening moments, I still read it liked a crazed woman.

I just had to know how Angela/Angel could endure what she did and how Colin could or would be able to save her.

Edit 10/14: I am upping this rating from an original 3.5 stars to 4.5 stars. And the reason is this: the more I think about this book---that I read back in July---the more I CANNOT forget it. Yes, some of the scenes are rather, um, disturbing. But this story has stayed with me, which is always a sign that the book was overall-amazing.

I'm having a tough time rating this book. I liked the first half, but then it just seemed to drag the last half. I felt no emotional connection to the characters and that always ruins a book for me if I don't feel.

There was a lot of repetitiveness in the monologue. I feel that if the reader already knows what the character is feeling and thinking, then the author did her job. No need to repeat it over and over. I got it the first time.

Gritty and intense are the first two words that come to mind for this book. Oh, and I can’t forget disturbing because disturbing is alllll over the place in this book. So you dark lovers are in for a treat with this one:) cause it’s so, sooo good!

However, her 3 days of fun in the sun and relaxing turned into the nightmare she couldn’t escape from. One in which a number of bad circumstances and bad decisions leads Angela to find herself suddenly kidnapped and thrust into the world of sex slavery.

Colin's brother was kidknapped and sold into sex slavery when he was 10. Colin's family was also murdered, leaving himself as his only family. From day 1 Colin made it his mission to structure his life in a way that would allow him to find his brother and seek vengeance. He then dedicated his life to solving cases like his brothers and getting the victims back. Angela is the last case that shows up on his desk as he is hired to find and rescue her.

The first half of the book is very much centered on Angela’s kidnapping and acclimation to the sick and torturous world of sexual slavery. What was different in this book than others i”ve read about this topic is how the slaves were treated. She was not held in some slummy place with slummy owners and clientele but instead she was held in the lap of luxury and treated with a lot of kindness at times (well as much kindness as a sex slave gets) This was an interesting aspect to the story because it almost begged the question of “how bad is this if it’s in the lap of luxury?” And it tried to blur the lines. But there was never any doubt that the luxury was a smokescreen for the depravity, humiliation and degradation Angela suffered. And you felt her pain and anguish from the very beginning. She lived to survive and this was obvious because no matter how “pretty” the circumstances appeared from the outside, the inside held nothing but manipulation, violation, violence and abuse.
The second half of the book is where Angela and Colin come into contact as he is hired to rescue her. The connection between the two is instantaneous, though under the circumstances that was fitting to the story (as opposed to the slightly annoying insta-love in some other stories.) In my opinion, even though they’d never met, Angela’s circumstances and Colin’s personal history and plans to rescue her had truly connected them far before they’d even met. And then after they met, well, woah…I’ll leave it at that:)

I flew through this book. I couldn’t put it down! Because I needed to know what was going to happen next, and how things would turn out. I truly cared for the characters and wanted so badly for them to find peace and redemption. Whether they did or not, well you’ll have to read to find out cause I don’t want to spoil anything...
But if you love dark reads then you will surely love this! Fast paced, intriguing, disturbing and hopeful all at once, with some yummy sexiness mixed up within;)
