A little late, I know, but I finally decided to give this one a try. I just had to know what all the BDB fuss was about. I must say, this book was Oh so cheesy, but still hard to put down.

I can see why so many are obsessed with the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, and why others would think it ridiculous. I find myself sitting on the fence directly between the two.

On the one hand, there were the too numerous to count eye rolling moments. I found myself practically laughing out loud at the absurd A little late, I know, but I finally decided to give this one a try. I just had to know what all the BDB fuss was about. I must say, this book was Oh so cheesy, but still hard to put down.

On the one hand, there were the too numerous to count eye rolling moments. I found myself practically laughing out loud at the absurdity of the dialogue between the brothers. Seriously?! Wrath is like 300 years old! It irritates me when immortal creatures use modern slang. I could understand if they spoke that way with humans to adapt and try to fit in, but not with each other. I would expect them to revert to old ways when speaking with one another.

The romance was of the "lust-at-first-sight" variety, with a healthy dose of "you're-the-only-one-to-ever-break-this-bad-boy", and a whopping "I've-found-the-soulmate-I-never-knew-I-was-looking-for" to top it all off. Cliche much!

Beth was just sort of there. I didn't really feel one way or the other about her. She wasn't annoying, but I didn't relate to her either. As for the brothers…….I think they played off every "sexy" male stereotype in existence. Which did absolutely nothing for me personally. Again, I thought it sort of laughable actually. I was intrigued by Zsadist, and I'd be interested to learn a little more of his story. I suspect there is a lot more to him than meets the eye.

I feel like I'm being overly harsh. I must admit that even with all of my issues, I was immensely entertained while reading this book. There was a certain readability to the writing style. I found the vampire mythology and political structure of this world to be fascinating. I also quite liked the darker atmosphere of the story, most especially in the beginning before it became too sappy. The story was written more like an UF with sex instead of your stereotypical PNR. The fact that there remained a large focus on the story and world building, was the distinguishing factor I believe.

Overall, I do see the potential of this series and plan to continue on when I am looking for a light yet captivating read.

Shelves: series, paranormal

I wasn't really sure about this one to begin with. I haven't really been into the whole vampire thing or even really anything paranormal, although the few paranormal books I've read I've loved and some friends have gotten me hooked on a few vampire shows lately. So I gave it a go.

I wanted to love this book, I really did. There were so many great reviews and props for this book, the characters, and the overall storyline. I don't know what it was, but I just struggled to get some form of 'connection' with this book to where I could start to love it. I mean, there wasn't any one given moment where I felt that I couldn't just put my iPad down and walk away.

I've been wanting to read this series for a long time now. I've been stuck in the land of "Young Adult" a little too long, and while I truely enjoy reading young adult books, I was ready to step it up a notch! This book did that for me. I really liked how the story started off and ended, but there was some stuff in the middle that was a little boring. However, I think as I go on and read the second book it will only get better.
