Probably someday I will share the same opinion as the rest of the world; today is not that day. Before legions of Mistborn fans jump down my throat, let me preface this review by saying that I enjoyed The Final Empire. Quite a lot, actually. As my first Sanderson novel, I went into this with hiiiigh expectations and the world-building did not disappoint in the least. The world Sanderson has created is intensely unique and creative, the pacing of information reveal ideal, and the story leaves you Probably someday I will share the same opinion as the rest of the world; today is not that day. As my first Sanderson novel, I went into this with hiiiigh expectations and the world-building did not disappoint in the least. The world Sanderson has created is intensely unique and creative, the pacing of information reveal ideal, and the story leaves you with the strong sensation that there is so much more to discover--which I love!

Moreover, Sanderson employs excerpts from a journal to end his chapters which slowly build the tension throughout the novel. This is a solid rebellion story, lead by a charismatic leader you cannot help but fall in love for and an underdog heroine who discovers that she has more power than she thought possible and I am a sucker for this type of a set-up. Sanderson doesn't fail to provide a wide host of secondary characters, not to mention a love interest who challenges our heroine in unexpected ways.

So...what's not to love? you might be thinking. Well, my main issue with this novel is, that contrary to what many booktubers and book bloggers have been saying, this book is not fast-paced or un-put-down-able. It is very put-down-able in fact. Not only is the story slow, it gets bogged down by long battle sequences and just as the momentum would pick up for me, it would also fall. Moreover, I found that after Game of Thrones the political machinations were not very impressive--the nobility is rather easy to fool--and after flying through giant novels like Name of the Wind in just a few hours, The Final Empire took a shockingly long time to get through. And this from someone who adores high fantasy.

This series shines not because of Sanderson's writing or even, to a large extent, his characters, but rather his plot. In fact, he's one of those masterful world-builders and plot-weavers where you have no idea what's coming in the final moments and the pay-off is bound to be worth it, 500-some pages of boredom be damned. I must admit, though, that I was expecting Sanderson to become a new favorite this year--and I don't think he is. Or, at any rate, I don't think this series is it. I haven't given up on Sanderon--or the Mistborn series--but I'll be diving into his future work with a whole lot less expectation--and enthusiasm, too. ...more

The Goodreads blurb is huge so if you want an idea on what its about check it out. I’m going right to my feelings.

First off I usually have to get into Fantasy mode for high fantasy books but this one sucked me right in. There is a lot of world building but the author kind of threw it at you and then spoon fed it to you later. I loved the pace of the book and I NEVER got bored of it. Amazing read!

It was a great adventure, I really loved it. I have spent a week in that world and was completely immersed in the story.

Intelligent plot, unpredictable, great humour, great main characters' development, great action, I mean it's all in there!

The Final empire , is definitely one of the best and most creative high fantasy books I have ever read. The magic system in Mistborn is very unique and one of its kind. Allomancy is a magic system that involves ingesting and burning metals that give allomancers different abilities, depending upon the metal ingested. only the Mistborn have the ability to burn every metal.

I failed to see what all the fuss is about .......

the only thing I found intriguing about this book was the epigraphs from the lord rulers journal. I wish the book was about that the whole journey he took just everything about that journal.

This book has been on my radar for years and I must say it did not disappoint! I am in awe of this world. And Vin! She is amazing! Oh, and Kelsier! How I love Kelsier! Definitely a book any fantasy fan would love!
