February 2015 Review

Reading this series for the 4th time in preparation for the upcoming release of "Thoughtful"!!!!

Most of my friends know this series is my #1 FAVE series of all time. Kellan Kyle is nothing less than PERFECT in my eyes. I have loved no other book boyfriend more than him. Some have come close, but none have been able to dethrone him.

I have to be honest, if this were true, I would have given the book a couple more stars...Really. I honestly hated the characters that much.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how so many people love this book. I thought I would love this book. I at least expected to LIKE it!!! It took me a little while to get into this one. The author was overly descriptive in the beginning (and other areas of the book, but mostly in the beginning), which detracted from this overall great story. I'm giving it 4 stars because I really liked the story and most of the characters made up for the writing. I was confused and distracted by the pages and pages that did not contain one line of dialog. Not that I live for dialog, I just got a little bored. In fact, I ended up skimming a lot thr It took me a little while to get into this one. In fact, I ended up skimming a lot through those pages just so I would get the gist of what was happening and get to the main point S.C. Stephens was trying to make. Once it picked up though, boy did it pick up! I couldn't put the book down!! I found this to be a great love triangle story, full of passion, ecstasy, intensity, anxiety, depression, guilt, joy, confusion...you name it, and presented in such a way that I personally felt just as torn as Kiera did. By the way, I wasn't crazy about the name Kiera because I think 3 syllable names are annoying to read...too lengthy just like the first couple of chapters haha, so I called her Keira instead. That is sort of a moot point, but wanted to share anyway. Both the male main characters have good and bad qualities, and therefore one does not stand out more than the other as a favorite for quite some time. Eventually, it was really obvious to me whose team I was on. Then again, I only chose the guy who Kiera was connecting with more and it was obvious who she was disengaging from. Kiera, or Keira, was difficult to understand and like. She was not only annoyingly indecisive, but annoying all around. It bugged me how timid and easily offended she was (and how often she'd blush) like she's this saint, yet her behavior was the opposite of how her character was portrayed. The impression I got, was that the author wanted us to believe that Keira was this "down to earth" or "the girl next door" type and experienced great turmoil with doing the things she did. I found it to be quite hypocritical instead because she was portrayed as such, but did not struggle at all with carrying on the non-physical romantic relationship with the other guy. Which brings up the point that cheating is not just physical, it's emotional as well. Keira did not feel guilty at all about the emotional cheating, only the physical. I would have liked her character more if she wasn't such a blushing sissy and owned her feelings and actions, rather than just reacting to them all the time. Or, if she had struggled more with the emotional cheating. She also lies a lot in this book, which I suppose can only be expected in a story like this, but again is not congruent with how she is portrayed as this fragile blushing girl. It ends appropriately, and I loved how it ended, but don't see how the author set up much for book 2. As far as I was concerned, this story ended happily with book 1, enough said. I just adored this book! At first I wasn't sure I would since I am not a fan of cheating, as much as I hate to say it, after awhile part of me was saying "Denny who?" I did find myself irritated with Kiera and how long it took her to admit not only to herself but Kellan how she felt. At times I wanted to scream at her for not just telling Denny right away and for leading them both on. Denny is a great guy but not for her. I think my heart hurt so much more for Kellan.. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I loved the dynamic between the two leads, Kiera and Kellan, I ate up every word and couldn't stop reading! On another note I couldn't stop thinking what a stupid bitch Kiera is throughout the book, like seriously stringing along Denny while she is oogling Kellan, ugh, for someone who considered herself to be the smart sister she damn well didn't act like it! Oh man.. I guess I don't see what all the hype is about this series! This book took me quite a while to read. I just wasn't feeling it and I allowed it to stretch out over a week.

Kiera frustrated me to no end! I loved Danny and Kellan, along with the rest of the D-bags. I loved all of their personalities and what each of them added to the story.
