This book was what I would call an Epic love story! I fell in love with Alexander and Tatiana, and there won't ever be a couple that replaces them as the most devoted,romantic couple in the history of my romance books that I have read. The sacrifice that these two go through for one another is just amazing.

Not only do we get a beautiful/tragic love story; but we also are giving a glimpse into the tragedy of war, and the devastation that it caused the people who lived through it. Ms. Simons does This book was what I would call an Epic love story! I fell in love with Alexander and Tatiana, and there won't ever be a couple that replaces them as the most devoted,romantic couple in the history of my romance books that I have read. The sacrifice that these two go through for one another is just amazing.

Not only do we get a beautiful/tragic love story; but we also are giving a glimpse into the tragedy of war, and the devastation that it caused the people who lived through it. Ms. Simons does a wonderful job of weaving history into this story, and it is so realistic that this was truly an emotional journey that I felt like I was living right alongside the characters.

Tatiana is a heroine that I fell in love with. No heroine will ever come close to her. This young lady amazed me with her strength of character, and her loyalty to her family. She has got to be one of the most selfless characters I have ever come across and I was rooting for her happiness through all of her torment. Alexander was a valient hero as well, and this couple I will say deserve each other. The love that they share for one another, is a love that not many find in a lifetime. I find it funny that as I write my thoughts, I write as if the characters are real people. They came alive for me through every single page that I read. I feel as if I know them!

This was a story that I kept putting off due to how long it was. I regret that I waited so long to read it. I never even once thought that the story was dragging on, and I look forward to the next book in the trilogy. I can see me rereading this several times throughout my lifetime. It is just one of those stories that a person will never forget, and it changes the way that I think as well. Just reading about the sacrifice, and the hard times that people suffered through during the war, has changed my way of thinking for all time.

This trilogy is a must read for book lovers. It is more than just mild entertainment..it is an experience that you won't ever forget. ...more

I’m going with 3.5 and not sure how much weight you should place on it. I read up to the good part and then had to get back on the waiting list at the library to finish which took weeks.
Let’s start with the good. This is the kind of writing that I live for. I love when an author takes you inside the heads of the characters and makes you feel what they are feeling. I felt the joy, pain, misery, love every other freakin emotion you can think of. Her world building was outstanding. I could see myself in a dimly lit apartment, walking through the neighborhoods that were torn apart from shelling and could almost smell the stench of the buildings when the plumbing was out.

Now for those ladies who wanted to be friends with me for the male point of view, you are going to pay. Muhahaha. I LOVED Tatiana. She was lovable, strong, smart(most of the time), lovable, funny, sexy later on, "relentless" (did I say lovable) I just wanted to be around her and she is the only reason I was able to get past the beginning of the book, that and Aestas putting on her collar on and helping me nudge my cart up the hill…haha

The bad. I thought the triangle was brutal to get through. (I don’t like normal triangles and this was definitely not a normal triangle) I think the whole book would have been better if it was a little more condensed. The way she dealt with the starving part of the book would have been more intense if it was cut down a little. I understand what the writer was doing but she lost me through the process. I was really engrossed in the story and she sucked me in and felt their pain but it went on so long that it took away from the story for me. There were a couple parts of the story where I felt like that but I won’t bring up everything because then I’d have to bring up all the good and I’ll never get this posted. I didn’t like Alexander until the end of the book but I don’t bat for that team so I won’t get into it. This doesn’t belong under the bad but I HATE Dimitri. It just had to be said somewhere.

I will be moving onto the second book.

This book was absolutely amazing!! I would have given it 5 stars, except that it was a little too long for my taste. However, this is an amazing love story filled with plenty of courage, happiness, sadness and hope. You get a really good idea of what the people of that era went through during WWII. It was very interesting and I couldn't put it down. I loved Alexander in this book and, honestly, I didn't expect that the book would encompass so much of the romance between the H and h. I also wasn't expecting that Alexander would be so alpha and possessive.

The author did a good job fleshing out the characters, main and secondary. It wasn't a boring read, although it could drag, but my problem was that I never felt an urgency to get back to it.

There are some books that we read and enjoy, then there are fewer that we read and love. Still yet, there are fewer that can grip your emotions and leave you wanting. Then there are those that will stay with you for your lifetime. This is my lifetime read. I'm not sure I will ever come across another love story told like this.
