OH. MY. GOSH!! I feel like a broken record. I LOVE Kristen Ashley. I love her, I love her. I will have her babies. Or Hawk's, whatever.

There was a bit of a change up, in my opinion, on the level of intensity of our hero's past and how much it shaped his present self. Practically all my GR friends have been reading this author & urging me to, so last evening I gave in, first off I should have started reading the book earlier since it was huge and then there were moments when I didn't understand what was being said because of the way it was written but that aside I did enjoy the book despite the problem I had with the arrogance and stupidity of some characters.

First of the heroine, in this day and age of STD's, she continued to sleep with a man whose Rating 3.5
Practically all my GR friends have been reading this author & urging me to, so last evening I gave in, first off I should have started reading the book earlier since it was huge and then there were moments when I didn't understand what was being said because of the way it was written but that aside I did enjoy the book despite the problem I had with the arrogance and stupidity of some characters.

First of the heroine, in this day and age of STD's, she continued to sleep with a man whose name she didn't know for one and a half years, I mean fine she picked him up & after the first day he was gone, he kept returning and not finding this creepy enough to stop, she let him and then later on the book she feels dirty because she finds out that she was kind of in a line of booty calls and she never once attempted to deepen whatever they had or even talk to him.

Other things about her, she loves her dad and step-mom. She also realizes that Mystery Man(is like her dad, bossy) who acquires a name after her half sister lands herself in something that has a biker gang, FBI, police and bad guys looking for her. He actually kind of gets up in her face for walking into a biker gang lair to find out about her sister and Gwen feels angry about how he confesses that he has been keeping an eye out on her, violating her privacy when they don't really have a relationship and suddenly he is like you are mine.

Of course after this guys are all over Gwen, while the hero thinks that even when the heroine is telling him no, it actually means yes.

The hero Hawk's behaviour is something no woman would stand for in real life but I guess in fiction things are kind of okay. Also the fault for their non-relationship also lay with the heroine a bit. I didn't like the fact that Hawk says she was his but he has no problem saying there were other women during the time period she was his sex-toy.

Then, there is the fact that he wants the heroine to open herself to him completely forgetting the lessons she learnt from her failed marriage and cheating ex, even when he only offers her token from his life when he feels like.

There comes a moment he breaks up with her, just when Gwen is opening up, what I find weird was that she up & walked off with another guy & lived with him, sleeping with him in his bed(not having sex) and letting him kiss her, I dunno this just came off as weird.

Of course the hero tries to make up for it, telling her why he is the way he is, that he lost his wife and daughter and expects the heroine to immediately fall over on him, which she doesn't, she needs time to process which he doesn't want to give her.

The book was filled with flaws and despite them I did enjoy it but it went over the top with everything. ...more

Omg!..i loved this book!! I will admit, at first, the "H"..Hawk..was almost too Uber Alpha for my taste...to the point that he came off as an overbearing arse..with scarey stalker-ish tendencies..teehee...reminded me a lot of Seth from the 1st book in Shannon McKenna's McCloud and friends series! Well, as the story went on he totally grew on me and i ended up LOVING HIM!!!...his endearments for Gwen...sweet pea..*sigh*...how he would answer her questions with just "babe."..which drove her absolu ...more

I would give "Mystery Man" 5-stars on the Epilogue alone! Really enjoyed MM from the first page to the last. Lots of action in this captivating storyline, along with fantastic lead characters and secondary ones as well. Hawk and "Sweet Pea" brought the story to life with their wit and banter. Of course, their sizzling love affair contributed a great deal to the enjoyment of reading this book too. There is unfinished business to complete and HEAs to be had in upcoming installments. จะว่าไปนางเอกก็น่ารำคาญใช่ย่อย จุดอ่อนของนางเอกที่เราไม่ชอบเลยคือการที่ทุกคนมารุมรัก นี่มันเกิดอะไรขึ้น เริ่มต้นมาด้วยการที่นางเอกโอ๊ะโอกับหนุ่มๆมากหน้าหลายตา ใครๆเห็นก็อยากจะจับจองเป็นเจ้าของ ไม่ใช่น่าอิจฉานะ น่ารำคาญ ซึ่งนางเอกมีคุณสมบัติชอบอ่อยแบบไม่รู้ตัวอีก ซบคนนู้นทีคนนี้ที อะไรของเธอ สิ่งที่เราโอเคกับเรื่องนี้อย่างนึงคือพระเอกไม่งี่เง่ากับนางเอกมากเรื่องการที่นางเอกมีนิสัยแบบนี้

ในขณะที่เรามีปัญหากับพระนางอย่างละนิดอย่างละหน่อย สิ่งที่เรารู้สึกโอเคกับเรื่องนี้คือตัวละครหนุ่มที่มาชอบนางเอกและเหล่าคอมมาโด ตัวละครหลายตัว พออ่านแล้วจะรู้เลยว่าตานี่เป็นพระเอกเรื่องหน้าแน่ๆเช่นแท็คและลอสัน อ่านไปอ่านมาเรากลับอยากอ่านเรื่องของตัวละครเหล่านี้มากกว่าคู่พระนางที่พอจะเดาเรื่องออกตั้งแต่แรก

เราว่าปัญหาหลักๆของเรื่องนี้อยู่ที่การลำดับความสำคัญเนื้อเรื่อง (จังหวะ) กับการใช้ภาษา หลายๆครั้งที่อ่านจะรู้สึกว่าทำไมถึงดำเนินเรื่องแบบนี้ โดยรวมแล้วเรื่องดำเนินค่อนข้างช้าและไม่มีอะไรมาก เหตุการณ์ระทึกส่วนใหญ่เกิดขึ้นตอนเรื่องเกือบจะจบแล้ว ซึ่งเราไม่รู้สึกว่ามันจะกระชับความสัมพันธ์พระนางยังไง ส่วนเรื่องภาษา เรามีความรู้สึกว่านักเขียนพยายามทำให้เนื้อเรื่องออกcomedy/chic-litหน่อยๆ เพื่อให้เรื่องเข้าถึงได้มากขึ้น ด้วยการใส่คำอุทานต่างๆเข้ามาเวลาเขียนถึงมุมของนางเอก (1st person perspective) บอกตรงๆเรารำคาญกับ'โอ๊ะโอ่' ของนางเอก จากการอ่านแปลไทย เรารู้สึกว่าไม่สำนวนการแปลก็สำนวนนักเขียนแหละที่มีปัญหา มันอ่านแล้วรู้สึกทะแม่งๆกับการเลือกใช้คำที่ดูห้วนๆไม่flowไม่ธรรมชาติ ทำให้เวลาอ่านหลายๆครั้งต้องกลับไปอ่านว่าเขาตั้งใจจะสื่อว่าอะไรนะ ทั้งๆที่โรแมนต์ไม่ใช่นิยายที่อ่านยากเลย ซึ่งส่วนหนึ่งเราว่าจังหวะการใช้คำน่าจะมาจากนักเขียน ทำให้นักแปลเลือกคำที่มาใช้ให้ตรงตัวได้ค่อนข้างยาก เอาเป็นว่าปัญหาเหล่านี้ก็เป็นอุปสรรคส่วนหนึ่งในการอ่านนิยายซึ่งค่อนข้างหนาอยู่สำหรับนิยายรัก แต่เราคงจะอ่านต่อเพราะอยากรู้เรื่องราวของตัวละครอื่นต่อไป

So very good Hawk and Gwen had a a very heated yet very strange relationship. Personally it frustrated me that they waited a year and a half to start the real relationship but in the end I was happy with the way everything turned out.

UPDATE: I re-read this book after reading the Rock Chick's book because of the fact that Lee was in this book and I am happy I did because that part of the story works more that I know more about those characters, and how they show up in every book of the Dream Man ...more

I had really high expectations for this after seeing so many positive reviews, but I was a bit disappointed,
Hawk Delgado was a bit too much of a caveman for me and I couldn't get back the way he spoke. He just didn't sound very intelligent and neither did the rest of the men in the book. And I really didn't feel much for Gwen - she was a little too ditsy at times.
It was mostly enjoyable, but certainly not one of my favorites. ...more
