Going Under in Buddy Read Zone

I’m going with 4.5 on a book that kept my attention to the point that I almost read it in a day. I actually stopped at 93%. I know, I know, I should be flogged for that one but I just wanted to enjoy it and it felt like it would have been work to get to the end and I didn’t want to rush it.

Brooke is starting her senior year with one thing in mind, to get revenge for her best friend. The blurb says she wants to stay out of trouble but that was never really part of her plan…haha She sets off to ex I’m going with 4.5 on a book that kept my attention to the point that I almost read it in a day. The blurb says she wants to stay out of trouble but that was never really part of her plan…haha She sets off to expose her friend’s rapist with a fool heareted plan but is so racked with grief that she feels like anything she endures would be worth trying to get some relief from the pain she is feeling for the loss of her friend.

Well like I said, it totally kept my attention. I guess the biggest reason I swung my stars down and not up is that I really struggled with liking Brookes character. I try not to be too judgmental because I have made my share of FUBAR mistakes in my life. Her mistakes came from her character though. I like someone to route for or relate to when I’m reading. I immerse myself in the story almost as one of the characters or multiple characters. I just couldn't do that with Brooke. I couldn't justify her actions in so many situations, especially the main one. I usually am pretty good at moving past an aggravating situation and trying to get into the present instead of letting one scene bog down the enjoyment of the book. This story kind of made it hard for me to do that because not only did it keep bringing up the situation that pissed me off it just kept building on it, making me dislike/hate her even more. I guess the thing that pushed me forward was my hate for the villains in the book were stronger than my dislike of Brooke so that gave me a reason to hope she succeeded in her plans. There were also a bunch of other characters that made me want to move on. I liked Terry and Lucy and really liked Gretchen's character. Ryan's character was mysterious and had me thinking that there was something there and I kept reading to see if something was going to come to light.

5 Stars. Be warned. If you are sensitive to the issue of rape or sexual assault, you may want to wisely consider if you should read this novel. That being said, I can already tell that Going Under is going to stick with me for a long time. This novel has seriously shaken me up, but it was fantastic. I will be reading more written by this author in the future.

This book will slightly shake you up bc of the subject matter, but it is definitely worth reading. This book deals with rape and the author writes about it very candidly. You must know that going into it. There is a scene in the book that is extremely difficult to read. I cried and even felt a little violated and angry reading it.

This book was simply amazing, but I warn you if you cannot handle a rape scene, you may want to skip over this.

Brooke starts out as a rather flighty girl attending her best friends funeral. She is harboring guilt as she had a falling out with her friend Beth before her death because she cheated with Beth's boyfriend. She is also carrying a secret about what led to Beth's suicide.

OMG didn't want this story to end....5 plus stars!!!!

This book dives in to a tragic topic for a storyline yet one that I LOVED from start to finish!!!!

Wow. I hated and loved this book. I found myself frustrated with the characters more than once. I mean, how can they do everything wrong...everything? The writing in this story allowed the perfect match of heavy situations coupled with a light manner in which they were told, making it easier to read. Overall I found this to be a refreshingly light approach to a dark read.
