Pagan Moore is a high school student. She is not the most popular girl, not the most beautiful, not the smartest, not the captain of the cheerleading squad, just an average teenage girl on the outside. But on the inside her soul is unlike anyone else's. Pagan has a special gift, she sees dead souls, she always has since she was a little girl. Leif is Mr. Popularity. He is the football quarterback, good looking, and has every girl swooning over him. He has one flaw and that is his disability in speech. Because of this Pagan is paired with Leif as his tutor. Their relationship does not start well at all, but as Pagan gets to know Leif she grows to like him. Their partnership turns to friendship, and then a relationship. Pagan knows their relationship is not mutual, because as great as Leif is, her true feelings lie with someone else, or something else she can't toatlly explain to herslelf.

Dank is death. His sole existence is to take the souls of the chosen dead ones to heaven or hell. He is watching Pagan because her time has come. That is what Dank is there for, to take away Pagan's soul. Little does he know that when the time comes for Pagan to die, death himself chooses to save her life, to spare her soul. Breaking everything he is and has ever believed in, and most importantly breaking the rules, and with that come the consequences.

Pagan is drawn to Dank in a way that is inhumane. All Dank knows is that Pagan's soul calls to him in a way that he has never expected. In the end Pagan makes a decision that is so selfless, she chooses death over her soul. Her decision changes everything for Dank and her. Now they are faced with the consequences and chances to find out how death and a soul's love will survive, or if they will fail against all odds.

I must admit, I was apprehensive about reading this book. I love Abbi Glines writing style and adored her Sea Breeze and Vincent Boys series, but I couldn’t imagine her writing young adult paranormal. How wrong I was. I found myself wondering why I left this on my tbr list for so long!

I loved the characters in this book. Abbi Glines always has me hooked on her characters! Pagan was really sweet and she genuinely cared about the feelings of others. She selflessly finished Lief’s homework for him ...more

Shelves: young-adult, craptastic, paranormal, highschool-drama, rhymes-with-cupid, i-deserve-a-cookie-for-reading-this, kill-it-before-it-lays-eggs, dafuq-did-i-just-read, dat-stalking, whiny-annoying-bitches

For starters, DAMN THAT COVER!! It was the first reason I considered reading this book. Damn Pepe for being so hot!!

I must say, I thought various times before on picking up this novel, but some reviews made me change my mind. Until a friend said we should try it and I thought 'Hell, why not?'. HUGE mistake. I'm still angry for losing precious hours on this.
