Where do i even begin? No seriously where do i begin?!?!

OK so at first when i read this description i thought to myself here is another typical YA novel with an Angel plot... WHOA could i even be more mistaken.. I’m not even sure what category this falls in but YA is not my first guess. This is a book that makes you fear the end of the world like nothing i have ever read before. Why? Because the writing and descriptions are so vivid and terrifying and yet so simple in a way that it makes you go Where do i even begin? No seriously where do i begin?!?!

OK so at first when i read this description i thought to myself here is another typical YA novel with an Angel plot... WHOA could i even be more mistaken.. I’m not even sure what category this falls in but YA is not my first guess. This is a book that makes you fear the end of the world like nothing i have ever read before. Why? Because the writing and descriptions are so vivid and terrifying and yet so simple in a way that it makes you go "yup, this is all so terribly possible". I mean Susan Ee really goes for it here. I’m talking avenging angels, cannibalism, zombie/nephilium half-breeds, things that go bump in the night and half eaten corpses on the road. Would i have ever picked this book up if i got this description prior to reading it? HELL NO bc what i just described to you is not my cup of tea. I am the kind of girl who gets nightmares from a commercial. and yet i was glued to my seat, gripping the pages and shaking with anxiety and we haven’t even discussed the plot!!!

Penryn is on a quest to save her little sister who is abducted by one of the angels who is waging war on earth -Rapture style- literally plucked out of her wheelchair and is taken. While her schizophrenic mother goes running for the hills with a carton of rotten eggs. She quickly grabs an angel whose wings have been cut off and left bleeding in the streets, Raffe, and drags him into hiding hoping to revive him and have him lead her to her sister. The whole plot is their journey to San Francisco, him to get his wings sewn back on and her to find her sister, and what happens while they are trying to survive the journey there, what they see along the way and how to break into the Aerie. But it all comes down to this, the terrifying things Pen finds when she gets there....

This is the longest book review ive ever written and honestly i feel like i haven’t even touched the surface of this book. The relationship that builds between Pen and Raffe is great. It's filled with tension but Penryn knows here priorities. The energy and pace of the book is relentless and the ending, OMG that ending!!!!! I cannot wait to read the second book. The only complaint i have is that bc i read the paperback version (proudly kindle free :D)the chapters were too short.

Overall: it was a difficult read at times but well worth it!!!!

The End, JAW on FLOOR… Holla canolla y’all I was CRYING!! An awful omg that is the most brutal thing that could ever happen to another living creature. Shock, despair, agony, NOW WHAT?!! Not good people not good…Thank HEAVENS the final book is out cause I feel like I’m going to ZIP through this whole series and have a wonderfully bittersweet book hangover…I can easily see this becoming one of my faves. I was not prepared for what I was about to read. Having said that this is the best angel related book I hve read by far......
The strong and brave penryn is on a mission to find her sister Paige who has been captured by monster demon angels all amid a war of world and heaven and hell. And quite literally hell has arrived on earth....worse than has been imagined in my little inadequate brain.
There is a religious background, obviously, but not imposing, and so far the story has yet to unfold and an I was not prepared for what I was about to read. Having said that this is the best angel related book I hve read by far......

There is a religious background, obviously, but not imposing, and so far the story has yet to unfold and answer many many questions but not in a way that takes away sense and understanding from the story, such that you need the link to go on. So you allow yourself to imagine what you will. I guess just as terrorism on our human planet, today, is no suprise to us all, and this planet holds so many regions hidden filled with death, evil, corruption, sadism, e.t.c, the same way this book describes a world gone wrong involving more of God Almighty's creatures all of whom have free will , so that they may judge which side to be on good or evil, not to mention the grey area which no one understand but God almighty.
The narration cleverly mixes a bit of humour so this dark tale doesn't make you only cringe at every turn. The hate relationship between our two main characters, is amazing and amusing and hides a bit of praise and awe at times and makes you want to push the two pawns together and tell them to kiss and make up. Alas the unrequitted feelings remain just that unrequitted and not unveiled till right at the end. All the mean and rude banter between the two was all so worth it when you get to the last chapter where Raphael unleashes his unbridled rage at his loss of so many things most important of which is Penryn. What shines through above all is Penryns superlative bravery. No words are enough to praise this woman who single handedly manages to reach her goals however impossible and gruesome and dire and rescue an angel even though he is on the other side of the line
The last few pages had me gripping my ipad like my life depended on it, almost in tears grieving over Penryn, overwhelemd by the flood of emotion that raphael unleashes at the loss of his own personal guardian angel

Huh. I wonder why I rated this 3 stars before.

It's very well-written and jam packed with action from start to finish. I especially loved Penryn! She was so kick ass! And let's not forget Raffe, I wish to see more of his story in World After. Can't wait! I'm so glad I decided to re-read this.
