I thought this was a great start to a new series.
In the beginning of this book Penryn, her mother and her little sister Paige (who is in a wheelchair) are trying to move to a new place to stay because they have run out of food and all other necessities. The horrible murderous gangs seem to rule in the day but it get's worse.... The Angels rule the night. In the middle of this relocation attempt an Angel smashes down on top of a car and a bloody fight occurs. Whilst watching the gruesome event I thought this was a great start to a new series.

Whilst watching the gruesome events unfold from their hiding place, they are noticed and one of the Warrior Angels flies of with her sister Paige. Penryn saves the beaten Angel Raffe in the hope that he will take her to her sister.

I usually tend to steer clear of YA books but this one really caught my eye. The action starts within the first few pages which is always a good thing in my opinion. Penryn and Raffe have great chemistry.
For me Penryn was a great heroine she realises very quickly that if she is going to locate and rescue her sister, she will need to toughen up... A LOT! She doesn't sulk, whinge, moan or have an emotional breakdown she just get's on with it and takes absolutely no crap, especially from Raffe. I loved the banter between them and more than a few times I was laughing out loud at their combined humour.
But what made me love this book the most was that about 50% into the story it took such a dark turn. The humour dies down and things get really serious. I'm not exactly sure what is wrong with her mother but her actions become more and more twisted throughout the book. The creatures that Penryn dicovers whilst looking for her sister are truly disturbing. I had to reread a few pages and check that I was still reading the same story (in a good way).
This book shocked me with the initial feeling of fear and violence. But it also went on to make me laugh and smile. Then when you least expect it it does another 180 and I was sucked down into this terrifyingly dark hole that the Author has created in this amazing world of Angels. I really can't wait to read the next book in the summer. ...more

Loved this just as much as the first time. Susan Ee has a way of writing that has me so invested and emotionally attached to these characters. I'm looking forward to the release of World After.

The Good: The concept of bad angels was refreshing and different and overall the characters were
likeable and the villains were interesting.

The Bad: This book lacked depth. The entire time I was reading it, I felt as though I was missing crucial background information. I am still puzzled about Penryn’s mom.

If author adds some depth, background information/more details, this could become an exceptional urban-fantasy series.
