With All My Soul (Soul Screamers, #7) in End of the Series Reading Challenge

Why do such amazing series have to end? Why can't they just go and on forever?
I feel so lost now that there will be no more Kaylee, Tod,Nash,Sabine and all others. Over the past books I've come to care so much about these characters that it just doesn't feel right for the story to end.

Avari has stopped at nothing in his obsessive pursuit of her soul, throwing the entire strength of the netherworld at the young bean sidhe and her loved ones. In this, the last of Rachel Vincent’s brilliant Soul Screamers series, Kaylee has had enough. She isn’t just going to get even; she’s going to get really really mad.

After her best friend Emma is forced to bury her old body and start her new life in another, Kaylee and team decide it’s time to turn the tables on the Hellions and try to beat them at their own game. What follows is a deadly battle of wills, as they attempt to act as bait. There is a real sense that this is the final battle and both teams are playing for keeps. It makes for intense reading, as one side seems to pull ahead only for it takes a completely different course.

Pacing of the book is intense, with bouts of action and huge amounts of tension. There are still moments of light humor, usual supplied by the brilliant back and forth of the group (in particular Sabine, I love that girl). There are some touching moments as relationships are mended and bridges rebuilt. I loved the direction Kaylee and Tod’s relationship took. It reaches new heights as he continues to be a constant source of support to her, especially in some of the darker moments.

The end was heartbreaking and so completely fitting for the characters and this series. It was with a heavy heart that I shut With All My Soul and said goodbye to these characters but it’s been one hell of a journey! This series will always be cherished.

My Opinion
You see, "brilliant" doesn't even begin to cover just how amazing With All My Soul was. I'm actually thankful that I didn't read the Soul Screamers series back to back. Doing so would just have made saying goodbye even harder. I did reread the first five books together, and I know that maybe a few months from now, I will reread the last two books once again. Oh, man, this was a fantastic book, though I kinda hope there'll be a novella, either something like Thane getting captured by Tod while Kaylee was where she was, or something like her dad let go of the bit of her mom's soul, and got his bit back. It took me forever to finish this one. Some series work with 7 books (Harry Potter) and others just seem to drag. Sadly, I was excited to start this book, but the first three-fourths of it was pretty boring and felt forced. Luckily, the last quarter got more exciting. This book ended as perfectly as this series could have allowed it. And I liked the addition of Ira. Full review to come.
