Evertrue (Everneath, #3) in End of the Series Reading Challenge

Wow, this book... Just... Wow. I remember my thoughts when I read Everneath- such a beautiful cover, but the story was kind of confusing. Things picked up in the second book. (I can say this trilogy did not suffer from Second Book Syndrome.) Cliffhanger after cliffhanger nearly killed me. But now that I've finished Evertrue, I don't know how to feel.

Closure, that Nikki was successful in her mission. That she got her happy ever after.

But not everyone got their happy ever after. That last chapter was heartbreaking. Talk about redemption! Oh, Cole.

You know how sick I am of love triangles? Well, when I was reading Evertrue, I thought Cole was a jerk for what he did- and that Jack, after sacrificing himself in the end, was an amazing hero. Enter second book- Jack was barely there in the picture, but there's a LOT of Cole, who, seems more decent in the beginning. But by the end of the book, I thought he was a freaking bastard who deserved to rot.

But after reading Evertrue, I am 100% Team Cole. (I can hardly believe it myself.) I blame the amnesia. He was so naive, so innocent, and so damn adorable. And how he sacrificed himself in the end- how he ultimately found a way to redeem himself and make up for his wrong ways- it was beautiful. Don't get me wrong, I was Team Jack in the past, but he's just so good, so perfect all the time and I barely got to see his character develop. Cole is just so much more complex, more interesting. But for Nikki, I guess Jack is the right one for her. They're good for each other.

The plot is fairly good too. Decently paced, but full of suspense and adventure. But my one complaint? Kinda unbelievable. I mean, Nikki and company manage to single handedly bring down the entire Underworld? And the Shades and the Queen couldn't manage to defeat them? But aside from that, the mythology is good, as with the world building. And the humor! Evertrue was surprisingly funny- highlights all around!

All in all, I am happy to say the book does the beautiful covers justice!

Heck yeah 5 stars! Do give this trilogy a try. The first book may be slow, but the next two books- Everbound is the BEST- will be amazing. I swear. ...more

I had a lot of anxiety reading this book..I didn't know how it would end! How the love triangle would work out..would the Everneath be destroyed..there were a lot of questions that needed answering! While I'm not thrilled..I understand what had to happen and I felt like the ending wrapped up everyone's story lines effectively.

The characters are still my favorite :) Jack (love), Nikki, Cole (love), Will, etc. They are well written and you feel happy/upset for them, even if you're not fans of ever ...more

Oh, such a great book, bittersweet ending, but so good, loved Cole in this one, so funny! Yeah, just a really great book! And great end to the series!

A nice ending to the story of Nikki, Jack and Cole. Congratulations to Brodi for this creative, original world where anything can happen an where love conquers all. A definitely must-read.
