This was such a unique take on Rumpelstiltskin! Unlike many fairytale retellings I’ve read, Gilded leans into the macabre and chilling elements of folklore—at times, it almost felt like a horror novel. But honestly, isn’t that what fairytales really are at their core?
I loved the use of Norse names—it gave the story a distinct, atmospheric feel. And the choice to base the villain on the Erlking? Brilliant. You can definitely see the influence of Goethe’s poem woven into the eerie, haunting world ...more

I LOVED THIS BOOK!! I have not read any other works by this author but she blew me away! She is so creative! Like wow! She created this world so brilliantly! Effortless descriptions of the lands, people, places, Gods, castles, rulers, etc. I loved all of the characters and brilliant imagery! The last few chapters left me hanging right on the edge of my seat! If only next November can come sooner! Can’t wait to read the next book!
